Changelog
Everything that has changed in kolonie since the first version on 12 September 2026, newest first. Since 1.0.0 every update has a version number; the current one is at the bottom of the start screen. Each version shows the moment it went live on the server, to the second, in Berlin time.
1.10.1
- The privacy policy now lives at kolonie.app/privacy. The old address still leads there.
1.10.0
- A daily challenge: one task a day for everyone, such as reaching 100,000 mass in Core with as few pushes as possible. The start screen shows today’s task with a button straight into its arena, and the day’s best attempts beside the Hall of Fame. Doing it counts as a day of your streak.
- Invite a friend: a link from the start screen or the end card puts your friend right into your dish, and you see each other marked as friends.
1.9.2
- The BTCX node behind the faucet, the skins and the wallet now runs Bitcoin-PoCX v31.1, the first final release of its new version line. Nothing changes in the game.
1.9.1
- Once a round is over, nothing can take your colony in any more: it is safe until the next dish starts.
- Joining no longer puts you into a dish that is between rounds: you start playing right away.
- Playing for your own BTCX address? The end card no longer offers a new wallet, your streak stays with your address. And back from the wallet, Enter plays again.
1.9.0
- A retention update: every end card now has a big wallet button. Create a free kolonie wallet to keep your daily streak and collect its prize. Already have one? The button opens it.
- When a round ends, the end card now stays up for 15 seconds instead of 8 before the next dish starts.
1.8.0
- A new colony is shielded for its first 8 seconds, shown by a breathing ring: nothing can take it in, and bots leave it alone. It can't take in other colonies meanwhile, only food. Cores, suns and black holes still burn it.
- The end card shows your colony's peak mass and the best rank it reached in the dish, and a bigger “Play again” button (Enter works too).
- Playing inside Instagram, Facebook or TikTok? The end card now offers to open kolonie.app in your real browser, so you can find it again. On a phone's browser it offers to put kolonie on your home screen.
1.7.3
- Every version on this page now shows the second it went live, in Berlin time.
1.7.2
- The About page now says who makes kolonie and how it started, and links kolonie on Instagram and its founder on X.
1.7.1
- If your wallet has already won its streak prize, days played without it stay with your browser, so they can still win a prize of their own.
1.7.0
- We now count how many wallets are in use each day, without storing IP addresses or wallet addresses (see the privacy policy).
1.6.0
- Your daily streak goes with you: days played before you had a wallet now count for the wallet once you create one.
- Finished seven days without a wallet? "Create wallet now" in the wallet, and the prize goes straight into it.
- The wallet's daily streak shows a single row of days.
1.5.3
- The start screen links to the founder on X, @allyolifesaving.
1.5.2
- The daily streak in the wallet looks right on every screen: the day circles and their labels no longer overlap, also on the first visit after an update.
1.5.1
- Your faucet payout and your daily streak are shown only in the kolonie wallet now, in the same look as before.
1.5.0
- The faucet and the daily streak moved into the kolonie wallet: it shows the rules, the latest payouts, your streak and what was paid to you, even before you have made a wallet. A streak played without a wallet is collected there.
- Games played for the faucet show no ads.
1.4.0
- Busy dishes stay smooth: a colony that joins or comes back in the middle of a round no longer adds new mass to the dish, so dishes don't slowly fill up with food and slow down.
- The server has room for about 900 players at once. When it is busy, new players see “Servers at max” and can try again a little later; nobody already playing is affected.
1.3.1
- The guide, the FAQ and the about page each have one job now: the guide is the rulebook with the game's exact values, the FAQ answers practical questions, and the about page explains how kolonie is built.
- Corrected: pushing near a sun or black hole spends roughly 0.3 % of your mass rather than 0.7 %, and pictures disappear only after five reports.
- The start screen carries a short fact sheet instead of a second copy of the rules.
1.3.0
- This changelog. The version number at the bottom of the start screen leads here.
1.2.2
- “Hall of Fame · today” is always on the start screen. Until someone makes it on a new day, it says “No runs yet today – be the first!” instead of disappearing.
1.2.1
- Hall of Fame: a round now counts once per player, with its best mass. Dying, leaving and the end of a round could each add an entry before, so one run could show up twice.
1.2.0
- New pages: a guide to orbits, hazards and strategy, a FAQ and an about page.
- A short “how to play” under the start card.
- On screens narrower than 1280 px the Discord and GitHub links sit under the text instead of covering it.
1.1.0
- The server keeps a record of the most players online at once, for every day and of all time.
1.0.0
The first numbered release. From here on every update gets a version number.
- Every dish holds 20 colonies instead of 12: the players, topped up with bots.
- A fair start: when you join a round that is already running, bots that have grown shrink back to the starting size, and the rest of their mass is spread as food.
- Only colonies, cores, suns and black holes pull on other bodies; food and exhaust no longer do. Capacity rose to about 700 simultaneous players.
- Longer names: 24 characters instead of 16.
- A hint on how to steer at the start of every life. It fades after a few pushes.
- Faucet: type your BTCX address into a field instead of editing the link. The reward takes 20 minutes of play instead of 30, and time without a colony no longer counts against you.
- A robots.txt and a sitemap for search engines, and a sharper tab icon.
The wallet
- wallet.kolonie.app: a BTCX wallet in your browser. Create one with backup words or restore one, receive, follow your history and send. Transactions are signed on your device, so your keys never leave it.
- The wallet talks to kolonie's own Electrum server and can be installed as an app.
- It is labelled non-custodial everywhere: nobody but you can move your coins.
- A Wallet button on the start screen. Wallet, Faucet, Skins and Sound now sit above the ad.
Daily Hall of Fame and streaks
- The Hall of Fame starts fresh every day at midnight, Berlin time.
- Daily streak: a finished round on seven days running pays 1,000,000 sat in BTCX. A round counts even if you are eaten.
- The Drift arena is back, now as a still dish without black holes or currents.
- Links to the BTCX community on Discord and to the Phoenix PoCX wallet on GitHub.
- The name field starts empty and ready to type in, instead of offering a name.
- A new tab icon, a black hole inside the amber edge of the system, and a new picture for link previews.
- Behind the scenes: dishes run on several processor cores, which roughly doubles how many players the server can take.
Legal pages and ads with consent
- An Impressum and a privacy policy.
- Google AdSense became the only ad network, loaded solely after consent.
- A picture is hidden once five different players report it (it was one).
- On phones the consent banner sits at the top of the screen.
- The skins panel moved under the faucet note, and the death screen names just the arena.
Skins and arena buttons
- Skins: for 15 BTCX your colony can wear a picture you upload. Everyone in the dish sees it, inside a ring in the size color, so you can still tell who can take in whom.
- A replaced picture reaches every screen at once. Skins follow you to a second device through the payment itself, no recovery code needed.
- A report button for pictures, and a review page for the site owner.
- Choose your arena: buttons with the number of players in each arena replace “New dish”.
- Every dish holds 12 colonies, with bots in the free places, and keeps its arena from round to round. Full dishes spill over into a fresh dish of the same arena.
- A Faucet button on the start screen, and a note that explains the faucet.
- A wider start card on big screens, with the Hall of Fame on the right.
- All names look alike and grow with their colony.
- A new cookie banner: Consent, Do not consent, or Customize for each purpose.
- The start and end screens scroll on phones again.
- The first ad slots: one on the start screen, one after a lost round.
Music
- Generative ambient music, made up live in your browser in D Dorian: a drone, slowly changing chords and soft bells. It grows more intense as danger comes closer.
Orbits, suns and black holes
- Black holes that swallow whatever comes too close, and cores that burn. Colonies and dishes are more than twice as big.
- Two new arenas with one big body in the middle: Sun and Black hole. Food there refills over time.
- More precise physics: orbits stay stable, and a push costs the same in orbit as anywhere else.
- You start in motion, already on an orbit. No arena has a wall any more: fly past the amber edge and you leave the system.
- Your path ahead is drawn as a line at all times: a whole orbit around a sun or black hole, red if it ends in the middle, amber if it leaves the system. It glides smoothly when your course changes.
- Every colony is tinted by its size compared with yours, so danger and food are readable in a split second.
- Names under the colonies, a live leaderboard, and the arena's name on screen.
- The camera stays on your colony, further out and smoother, and names grow and shrink with the zoom.
- Bots fly orbits too.
- Server restarts are announced in the game a few minutes ahead.
- A “New dish” button on the start screen.
The new game
kolonie was rebuilt from the ground up and went live in its new form just after midnight on 19 September. The Hall of Fame started fresh.
- A new physics engine running 60 steps per second, shared by the server and the browser.
- Arenas generated from a seed, and thrown away if their free mass could not reach the win goal.
- Bots, each with its own mix of aggression, caution and thrift.
- An authoritative server: the browser sends pushes, the server computes the dish and sends it back.
- Sound effects generated in the browser, and a mute switch that is remembered.
The first version
- 12 September: the first version of the game, then called kolonie.io.
- 15 September: renamed to kolonie.app, with link previews for sharing and a cookie banner; Google scripts load only after consent.
- 16 September: the game in English, a Hall of Fame and personal bests.
- 17 September: the BTCX faucet, a one-time reward for 30 minutes of continuous play. Smoother movement; colonies flow into each other on contact and are swallowed whole once covered; names two characters longer.
- 18 September: the start and end screens scroll when they don't fit.
